#lovemyamber winners James and Brooke, who purchased their bathroom products from our Kellyville store, talked us through their fresh and functional bathroom renovation, and what inspiration and factors guided their design decisions.

What sparked your decision to renovate/build, and what were the main elements you set out to achieve?
Our old bathroom started to fail. From broken tiles to missing rails our brown and yellow bathroom needed a desperate make over.

We wanted to design something fresh and functional. We wanted a bigger shower and a bath we could fit In. But at the same time something that was beautiful and homely.

What inspired the design? Did you begin with a vision, or did the design evolve throughout the process?
Clean and crisp but functional. The bones of the renovation were set early on. Walls and fixtures were decided on to provide maximum space. We went to Amber with a vision but open minded.

How did lifestyle and family inform the choices you made?
We wanted to create a space that our family could enjoy but also being functional and beautiful.

With so much choice available for indoor and outdoor tiling, what ultimately lead you to Amber? And can you describe your Amber experience?
Our experience with Amber was amazing. The minute we walked into Kellyvilles showroom we were in awe. The staff are truly so helpful and full of knowledge. We cannot wait to start our next project and go back to Amber.

What is the best advice you can offer first time renovators?
Planning is key. If you are using trades make sure you trust them as they are the back bone to your renovation. If you are doing It yourself research, plan and purchase as much as you can before you start. There is always something on back order.

What would you say your 1 rule with transforming a small space would be?
Keep it simple. Less is more.

What was the biggest learning from your reno/build?
Your wife is always right.

Were there any hacks or tips that you learnt from your small space reno that you would love to share?
Don’t settle. Think outside the box. There is always a solution when you have a design in mind. Our vanity is actually a wall cabinet. We modified it to be used as a vanity.

How long did the whole process take from planning to completion?
The whole process took about 3 months all up. We planned and purchased most of our items over a 2 month period. It took us a month to renovate as we did the entire bathroom ourselves.
