on designing and planning

Building or renovating a bathroom can be such a daunting job, from choosing your floor and wall finishes to feature walls or decorative borders! Doing some preparatory work and planning will ensure the end result lives up to your expectations and budget.

Here are some Amber suggestions to consider before making a decision.

1)  Define your main objective:
What do you want most out of your bathroom? To maximise its design or do you want it to be more practical as it will be the main family bathroom? This is the time to assess your needs and wants. Make sure the main objective is clearly defined and constantly monitored throughout the project.

2)  Get inspired: No doubt, you’d be looking through magazines and websites to get ideas. Amber’s styles made easy and latest trends are a great source to get the latest designs. Your design style will soon emerge!

3)  Set a budget: Depending on your objective, your budget might need to cover only a small facelift or a complete overhaul. At Amber, we have many payment options to suit your financial need.

4)  Choose your wall & floor surface: After weighing up the previous points, here’s some general information on the various floor and wall surfaces to consider having in your bathroom:

  • Ceramic & Porcelain Tiles: Most commonly used throughout bathrooms for their water resistance, hygienic and easy to clean finish. Tiles come in a variety of colours, sizes and textures to enable you to match latest trends in any style you want. If your bathroom is subject to heavy use a more hardwearing and durable porcelain tile may be more appropriate.

  • Natural Stone Tiles: Sealing is recommended with one of Amber’s approved sealing products to prevent staining and stone may require more care and maintenance than ceramic or porcelain tiles. However, nothing beats the look and feel of natural stone for a timeless elegant look in your bathroom.

  • Borders & Mosaics:  Tiles are often used to create a feature wall or borders in bathrooms, giving it an extra design quality as well as set the mood and tone of the room. With Amber’s vast range of colours, textures and sizings, you are sure to find a tile you will love!

5)  Visit Amber’s store: By this stage, you will have an idea on the type of bathroom wall and floor tiles you are after. Visit an Amber store and get friendly expert advice for any additional questions you might have and view Amber’s extensive product range. Here’s a checklist of things you might want to bring along with you to assist in the process:

  • Images such as magazine cut outs showing the look you are after or Amber’s product range printoffs
  • Samples of other colours already in your home that are visible in your bathroom (ie. paint, vanities, etc.)
  • Room measurements as well as information about the current floor surface (concrete, old tiles, etc.)
  • Preferred payment option, timings and budget expectation
